A Review from Good Gear Guide

Good Gear Guide: 27 December 2007

The Viewty KU990 will suit anyone who wants to combine their camera and mobile phone into one product. From picture resolution to call quality, it performs its two primary functions with stunning proficiency. Highly recommended.

The first thing that stands out about the Viewty KU990 is its sleek and arresting design. With its prominent front-mounted lens and extravagant LCD display, it could easily be mistaken for a compact camera. Indeed, we were initially a little reluctant to make calls in public, lest we look like a crazy person talking into a camera -- it truly bears almost no resemblance to a mobile phone. With overall dimensions of 103x54x14.8mm and weighing 112g, it is a little large for a handset, but attractively slim for a camera. All up, we think they got the balance just about right.

Daily Telegraph: 06 February 2008

Is it a mobile or is it a camera? Well that depends on what side of the LG Viewty you happen to be looking from. For the KU990 as LB's Viewty, pictured, is known) there have been features added, which means the device's camera has more in common with a dedicated digital camera than one which has been bolted on to a mobile handset.

First, it has a 5-megapixel resolution so it can produce decent size images. It also has image stabilisation built-in to take the shakes out of the pictures - a common problem with mobile cameras.

It also has auto flash mode, even red-eye reduction and different shooting modes.

The Beauty of Viewty

Courier Mail: 06 February 2008

Can’t decide whether this gadget is a digital camera or a mobile phone? No wonder. It's both.

LG's new U900 handset, nicknamed Viewty, is a touchscreen device that joins just two other Australian phones offering a built-in 5-megapixel camera, and features enough photographic options to make you wonder which came first: the phone or the camera.

Despite its many abilities, the Viewty is a meagre size. At just 1.4cm thick and I0cm long it will fit comfortably in a pocket.

Its front is dominated by a 3in (7.6cm) touchscreen, with just three buttons beneath it, but from the back, the Viewty appears to be a dedicated digital camera with features including a Xenon flash, autofocus light and a lens with a manual focus dial.

Other camera controls, such as the shutter button, playback and image stabiliser selection keys, run down the right side of the handset.

The LG Viewty KU990 might sound like it's a digital photo frame but it's actually LG's latest camera-phone that features an impressive 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and xenon flash. Not only can this handset brag about its camera, but it should also be very proud of its lovely large touchscreen, which lets you view images easily.

On top of this, it has the ability to upload videos directly to YouTube and to shoot video at 120 frames per second, which allows you to slow it down and watch it in slow-motion. This feature's ideal for shooting fast-moving sports footage.

GSMArena Reviews the Viewty

GSMArena: 25 September 2007

The LG KU990 Viewty is a true powerhouse packing a mass of high-tech goodies under its hood: the impressive 3" touchscreen display with 240 x 400 pixels resolution, the HSDPA 3.6 Mbps capability, the stereo Bluetooth and the highly intriguing 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, which is also capable of capturing video at 120 fps. Feature-packed and exquisite, the LG KU990 looks set on the fast track to success and we were more than happy to get our hands on it.

The Viewty is the spiritual successor to the Prada phone and has a feature set to put the heebie-jeebies up Apple's iPhone.

It’s easy to forget as tidal waves of iPhone hype crash over the UK that LG kick-started the touchscreen mobile revolution with its Prada phone. It doesn’t offer Apple’s ingenious Multitouch, of course, but that hasn’t stopped LG returning with a follow-up – the appallingly-named but super-powered Viewty.

The KU990, as it likes to be known formally, is another touchy-feely fondler that features-wise wallops the iPhone back to EDGEville. The LG KU990 Viewty is essentially the Prada phone, undressed and bulked up to accommodate a 5MP shutterbug, 3.6Mbps-flavoured HSDPA download speeds and a virtuoso video capturing performance.

Ciao! Review: A User’s Perspective

Ciao!: 23 October 2007

David Spalton reviews the LG Viewty from a user’s perspective on the Ciao! website. David says...

“We have just purchased this phone, My Girlfriend is a bit of a trend setter, and so went into Phones4U to collect this piece of pure genius.

The box is imprinted with the date it was made (20 Oct 2007), so in our grubby little hands fast.

The first thing you notice when you open the box, is the 'pop-up' style opening, which allows you to see two pictures of the phone. One as a phone, one as a camera.

When you pull the phone out of the box, it looks like a camera with phone feature... which is amazing in itself!
In the Box:
Phone LG KU990
Battery
Sub boxes - Charger, USB cable, earphones, stylus pen, screen protector and instructions.”

A Preview of the LG Viewty

PhoneArena.com: 10 October 2007

LG Prada was one of the first phones on the market, designed as a device that is mainly controlled by its large touch display. In this aspect, it was similar to the earlier announced Apple iPhone, but traded some of its functionality for smaller dimensions and more stylish design and interface. Although it looked well, it had mediocre features and was excellent for fashion gurus, but not so for people that want all-in-one phone.

LG has decided to change this, and it happens with the Viewty which moves the functionality of the previous model to the next level. It is not co-branded with Prada, but still has similar dimensions and design, which definitely class it in the "pretty-phones" line.

The first in-depth LG KU990 Viewty review has reached us, courtesy of CNet. After spending the last year or so focusing on designer phones, such as the LG Chocolate and LG Shine, LG are repositioning themselves in the high-tech arena once more, and the new 5 megapixel LG Viewty camera phone is the first phone to be released as part of their new strategy.

Of course, LG have released a 5 megapixel camera phone before in the shape of the LG KG920, but that had no autofocus and was pants. The LG Viewty, on the other hand, looks to be glorious.
