indescribable

the LG KU990 is one of LG's greatest productions. The interfaces on this phone are quite similar to the ones of the LG Prada.

It could have had more features such as wifi but still this phone is wonderful and well worth the money

QWERTY missing for most text input (incl gmail)

Overall quite a nice device but why is the QWERTY keyboard missing on gmail (and many other text input screens for that matter)? Except for messaging and horizontal web browsing the virtual keyboard (which actually works surprisingly well) is missing! You can use the handwriting mode for input but not the virtual keyboard!

Adding to the frustration I just can't seem to get gmail IMAP working ... looks like SSL is not supported ...

Still hoping for a software update that fixes these issue ...

Ring and message tones

Just wondering if you are able to set mp3 style songs as ringtones. Or change the message tone to one that isnt supplied with the phone. I know that this was a problem on the shine that ive seen.

Plays avi files so i can watch all my downloads without having to carry around my ipod as well. Really great phone. Easy to use. Nice large screen. Have had for less than 24 hours and the phone is flat already as I cant stop using it....

Great phone

My mum just bought me a LG Viewty phone, for previous years I have been using Nokia this is my 3rd phone. I am a 13 year boy who loves to explore specially when it comes to a new technology. I reckon LG Viewty is awesome. It is easy to navigate and user friendly..Thanks mum.

re comments bellow.
im using vista business, lg suite works fine.
GUI is fantastic, moving between menus is great, camera is a nice unit, image editing features are useful (image light or what ever it is), something that is not mentioned alot the reception is great much improved over v3x and q9h (both moto), browser is great thumbs up to full page view, qwerty keyboard is great...but lge how do i use it with the browser and in the contacts menu.
why have a fantastic feature like this and restrict it too the damn messaging menu....

First class from LG..

It's now day 4 since i picked up the latest offering from LG; the U990 (Viewty). Having been a firm Nokia supporter for many years i am very pleased with my new toy. The camera is quite fast and takes bright happy snaps. I have found i don't actually need the stylus to get around. The touch-screen is extremely accurate as well as sensitive. The surprising ease of use makes this phone worth every cent.

The only negatives i have found is some programs aren't supported (ie msn messenger & quite a few games), which i hope will rectified later on as other companies jump on the bandwagon and demand increases.
The screens size is impressive but the pixelation isn't as fine as some other fones also.
Other than that the LG U990 is way out in front with this great package

WOW WEE WOO

Just bought the LG U990 about (checks the time) 4 hours ago and I cannot put it down. Yeah sure, it's like every other new phone you buy that you fiddle with for the first 2 weeks like it's the most glorious thing on the planet.. but this Viewty, really is a Beauty of a phone. Just the phone itself, and the look and feel of the menus and wallpapers is so designer, and so aesthetically pleasing. I personally love the live "Fish" theme that you can set, where there is a little goldfish that consistently swims about the main home screen and you can even tell the fish where to swim by touching a spot on the screen with your finger.

The menu system is really easy to use, the stylus is kinda cute how it just hangs on the side of the phone. You can get away with using just your fingers to do all the work, especially with simple phone functions.. but once you get into the web browsing and photo editing.. stylus is essential!

Overall great phone. Shall be popular for quite a while (i hope..!)

Great phone, not-so-great camera

I've had this phone for a month now, and after the initial trouble I had getting used to the touchscreen interface, I'm now exceedingly happy with it. No, it doesn't have WiFi. No, MSN Messenger doesn't work on Three (Ugh! hardly LG's fault) but these things aside it is a fantastic handset. Software is fast enough and it is easy to use. The camera however is not what I expected. Tim Yen said earlier it doesn't focus properly and he is correct. Will LG give a firmware upgrade for this I wonder?? I really hope so!

Great phone- software is not Vista compatible

Really nice phone, great features, intelligent menus
On the down side keys almost impossible to read in full sun and LG phone suite is not Vista compliant, LG state it will never be. Not good for sync outlook, using phone as modem on notebook.

Great phone...really neat in every department but mainly bought it for the tv capabilities and cannot get the cable from anyone....even though 3 advertise it prominently as a feature of the phone.

Focus is a pain

The auto focus can be a real pain. Its goes into focus on an initial press and then just as you fully press the photo button it goes out of focus. This phone needs a firmware upgrade

Fantastic phone... but extremely poor LG support!

I imported this phone to ausralia from the UK because I fell in love with it... and I still love it!!!!It's nothing short of brilliant. Elegant looks, great touchscreen, excellent music player. I even tried an 8GB microSD card in it and it works fine, so it's going to become my main music player! Camera is also great, and those little added functions like document viewer, calendar etc are making my life easier!
Drawbacks are:
1) no profile that allows to silence the phone at night but keep the morning alarm ringing
2) only 5 inputs in the memo!!!!
3) it needs a cable for radio listening. that means, if you want to use your A2DP for music listening and answering calls, you will have to give the radio up
4) it comes with some factory glitches: the google preloaded homepage in german (!!!) and the google maps that won't launch in the preloaded version.
5) AND, MAINLY... the technical support team is shockingly unhelpful... despite these being software issues!!! so if something goes wrong.... good luck!!!!
in summary: the design/production team has done a brilliant job, but the technical support team needs some serious upgrade to competent personnel!!!

Speaker settings for FM Radio

For the life of me I can not find the loud speaker for the FM radio feature.....

Fantasic except for Playlist

Fantastic phone all round, but the playlist somehow is reversing the track order. LG customer service believe is a firmware issue - can't wait for that to be fixed!

Brilliant....!!!

So I never aimed to buy a new phone but my previous phone - LG Shine - got stolen..So long and behold and i went for another LG and did'nt know much about the Viewty, which here in Australia is just known as the LG U990. I have never been happier with a phone - I've had everything from Nokia to samsung to Compaq and O2 PDA's and the LG Viewty by far is the best. Touch screen is user friendly, Camera capabilities are outstanding and the picture quality is suberb! I highly recommend this phone...

Fantastic Phone!

I was excited when I heard about the LG Prada but then I was even more excited when I heard about the Viewty. I new that I wanted this phone even before it came out! I had watched videos of the phone on youtube and could not wait until it hit Australia.

The first 2 things that make that phone sound exciting are the 3 inch touch screen and the 5MP camera. I now have my own Viewty and it has definitely lived up to all my expectations and more. It is easy to use and everything works well, there are lots of great new ideas used in this phone and many are made possible due to the touch screen.

what a viewty !!!

I have been holding out for an upgrade and more specifically an iPhone. But when I saw the LGU990, I know it perfectly fits my needs. The email and web integration with High Speed internet access complements the High Resolution Camera and High Speed video recording. Good on you LG.

OMG! it is soo good. I luv it! Recording tennis with 120fps is sooo cool. You can see the tennis ball and check your swing! I cant wait to test it out playing golf!

Very impressed...the camera on this phone rocks!

This is the first LG phone that’s really attracted my attention, being a die-hard Nokia user for many years and I have to say, I’m quite glad to have finally made the switch!

First things first, it’s surprisingly lightweight (I hate lugging around those PDA-like bricks!) and compact for a camera phone. It feels sturdy enough to shove into my pocket without feeling concerned for its welfare. The 3 inch screen is lavish and the colours come out nice and bright – pretty impressive. The menu is simple enough to navigate through to the phone’s features via the touch screen. My initial concern was that the touch screen might not be accurate enough for me to navigate with just my fingers (I really don’t like using those stylus sticks). So it was a huge relief once I realised that I could flip through the menus with just my thumb.

I think out of all the phone’s features, what impresses me the most is definitely the camera. Being able to take panorama and continuous shots with a camera phone, in my opinion, brings “social photo-taking” to a completely different level. This one is definitely for keeps!

Oh what a Viewty Pt 2

You are able to adjust ISO manually or leave it auto. There is a circular control on the front of the camera, which is able to be pressed into service as either the manual Zoom (16x) I think?, it has 3 different timer settings, White Balance, does Negative, Sepia, has Macro. Its pretty much a full functioning 5 MP Digital camera, it really is very comprehensive. So if you ever dreamed of a phone camera that was really useful, this is it.
The show stopper though is the 120 FPS (Frames Per Second) video this is really cool, it works really well on just about anything. I can see all sorts of fun uses for this and suspect we will be seeing quite a bit of this on YouTube.
In short this is definitely worth checking out, have a play…

Oh what a Viewty

This phone is cool, I got it mainly for the 5 MP camera and its features, ISI 800, Manual Focus etc. Although the interface on the phone overall is pretty easy, I found the camera aspects a bit of a head scratch in places, you get the hand of it after a bit. The camera is easily activated by just pressing the actual shutter button.
I haven’t actually downloaded any of the images onto my mac to see the final quality, as I couldn’t seem to get the Mac too see the Viewty when connected via USB. Will explore Bluetooth option and see how that goes. However the image quality on the phone seems really good. You are able to adjust the camera between 5 MP (2592 x 1944), 3 MP (2048 x 1536) and 2MP (1600 x 1200), 1MP (1280 x 960) and VGA (640x 480) and 320x 340. Plus a super small image for just contacts. This range is really handy, especially if you are out and are beginning to run out of room on your Gig. Speaking of cards the Viewty is able to take up to 2 GB card

Initial thoughts after one week

I have had the Viewty for approximately one week, so just getting used to it. The UI takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the general idea the UI is quite consistent. Overall the touch screen works quite well and is quite accurate when just using your finger. When you touch the screen it vibrates slightly to imitate the feeling of a button, it’s a bit weird at first but does kind of work.
Other UI things that I found annoying was the way you have to scroll up in the phone book, it’s the reverse of what you are used to with every other application, to do this normally (on most GUI’s, Mac or Win) you scroll down to move up.
The overall build quality of the phone is really, really good. It’s looks very cool and feels solid and tough, though I wouldn’t want to drop it on the pavement – like any phone really. The other good thing about the physical unit is that it is surprisingly small, a lot smaller than I thought it would be. It’s quite heavy though, testifying to its build quality I guess.
